The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers ‘to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work’.
These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed. ‘Adequate and appropriate’ will depend on the circumstances in the workplace and the nature of the risks involved.
Our NUCO First Aid training courses are internationally recognised, designed for those who wish to either gain the basic first aid knowledge to be able to deal with a casualty in an emergency situation, and enable them to become an Emergency First Aider or for those who wish to become the appointed First Aider in the workplace.

Where a workplace first aid risk assessment identifies a need for an Emergency First Aider in the Workplace, this one-day qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. The learner will gain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations. The FAA Award in Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is unit 1 of the three-day FAA Award in First Aid at Work qualification. From gaining this qualification learners could progress to completing unit 2 and being awarded the FAA Award in First Aid at Work.

This 4-hour qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress. Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help. Learners wishing to qualify as a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ should consider undertaking the ‘FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health’ or the ‘FAA Award in Supervising/Leading First Aid for Mental Health’.
This 6-hour qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse. They will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace. Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help. Successful learners completing this qualification will become a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ and be able to utilise the skills and knowledge gained within their workplace and private life Those wishing to be a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ for young people should look to undertake the ‘FAA Award in First Aid for Youth Mental Health’.
This 12-hour qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a wide range of mental health conditions and learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers. They will know how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse. Successful learners completing this qualification will become a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ and be able to utilise the skills and knowledge gained within their workplace and private life. Learners will learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and understand how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace. Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help. The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help. Successful learners can act as a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ in any environment which they may deal with young people. Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help. Learners wishing to become a ‘First Aider for Mental Health’ for adults may wish to undertake the ‘FAA Award in First Aid for Mental Health’ or the ‘FAA Award in Supervising/Leading First Aid for Mental Health’

It will enable delegates to understand the importance of planning manual handling activities, how to carry out such tasks and includes practical kinetic handling techniques in the workplace.

Employers are required to take appropriate steps, including training, to reduce the risk of injury to employees who carry out any manual handling activities at work.
Fire Safety Training is designed for employees who want to develop their basic fire safety awareness in order to assist their employer by undertaking more specific fire safety roles in the workplace to manage fire risk.
The qualification is an ideal introduction into fire safety awareness for employees and a strong basis for undertaking further fire safety training. The qualification provides learners with an understanding of the key principles of fire safety from cause to prevention and response.
The qualification is suitable for someone who has responsibility in the workplace to undertake fire safety requirements and will provide learners with the knowledge to carry out designated duties as a Fire Warden/Marshall. The qualification will also increase fire safety awareness for all employees. The qualification covers fire hazards, risk assessment, control of fire in the workplace and duties of both employers and employees.
All employers must ensure that anyone who is liable to disturb asbestos during their normal work, including their supervisors, gets the correct level of information, instruction and training so that they can work safely and competently without risk to themselves or others.
This course will enable delegates to identify areas where asbestos is likely to be found, understand the health effects of disturbing asbestos and implement the necessary control measures to ensure they and others are not exposed to the fatal fibre.

To provide training in the safe selection and use, storage and mounting of abrasive wheels and discs on portable equipment i.e. stihl (cut off saws), grinders etc. and bench mounted machines. This course will enable delegates to understand the safety aspects of using abrasive wheels, how to select the correct wheel, how to inspect it prior to use, how to mount an abrasive wheel, and the legislation applicable.
